Tomoya Aomori

Acclaimed for his exceptional musical talents, Tomoya Aomori is currently one of the foremost multi-genre Cellists in today’s music scene. Tomoya’s vast experience in both Jazz and Classical music allows him to express his music in a unique innovative approach. He has appeared on stages such as the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Blue Note, and Birdland with various orchestras and jazz groups. Tomoya and his wife Julia Kang formed AKDuo, a husband-and-wife Cello Duo that plays Tomoya’s original compositions and arrangements influenced by Classical, Jazz, and Pop music (www.akduo.com). Together they have performed all over the world, as well as worked with young string players to encourage them to be creative in their music making, by use of improvisation to broaden their musical horizons. AKDuo is in the artist roster for the Si-Yo Music Society Foundation (si-yomusic.org). Tomoya is currently on faculty at The Juilliard School MAP division.

Tomoya Aomori is a graduate of The Juilliard School, where he completed both his Undergraduate and Graduate degrees. Upon graduating, he received the William Schuman Prize for Outstanding Achievement and Leadership in Music.
