Jin Li

Ms. Li is one of the most influential and senior music critics in China. She was the Publicity Director of Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Training Program Director of Beijing Youth Orchestra and is now a member of the Chinese Musicians Association’s Piano Society Arts Committee.

Ms. Li majored in Piano, Composition, and Music Education at Sichuan Conservatory of Music and graduated in 1986 with a B.A.  She worked as a piano teacher at the Music Academy in Mianyang Normal University from 1986 to 1993.  In 1993, she was admitted to Central Conservatory of Music, majoring in Western Music History and Composition Theory, and received her master’s degree in 1996.

In 2001, Ms. Li won the Israel FONS Music Foundation scholarship and studied at Samuel Rubin Conservatory of Music, Tel Aviv University, Israel until 2004. She studied Composition and Israeli Jewish music studies with the Conservatory Dean, the famous composer Ami Maayani. Her translation of Israeli Music was published by the People’s Music Publishing House in 2001.

As an influential music critic, Ms. Li has been invited to many world-famous music festivals such as Bayreuth Festival in Germany, Salzburg Festival in Austria, Tonyong Modern Music Festival in Korea, and the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. She is also a member of the American International Bloch Society.

Apart from being active in music festivals and activities at home and abroad, Ms. Li has also given lectures on research and music teaching at the Israel Embassy in China in 2004, SOAS at the University of London in 2008, and the Interlochen Center for the Arts in the United States in 2010. Recently, Ms. Li hosted album reviews and lectures at the National Center for the Performing Arts for Chinese pianist Sheng Yuan and composer Guo Wenjing in January and June of 2017.

As an expert in music education, Ms. Li gave a lecture on piano music teaching for Yamaha and served as Invited Commentator at the 6th China International (Xiamen) Piano Competition and 2nd Shenzhen International Piano Concerto competition.

Ms. Li has published thousands of articles on piano teaching, live performance reviews, etc. for various professional magazines in China, such Piano Artistry, People’s Music, and Music Weekly.
